Declared a protected building of cultural interest by the Heritage Department of Asturias it forms part of a group of 3 sister stations designed by the engineer Francisco González Quijano as part of the Ferrol – Gijon railway in 1950. They are characterised by their symetric design and beauty.

The unfortunate lack of mantience and investment has caused one of the stations to partly fall down whilst our´s was suffering from serious roof problems and general deteriation which threatened it´s future.

So a Spaniard and a Brit took it on with the idea of turning it into a quality Tourist Hostel mainly due to it´s proximity to the Pilgrims Way (Camino de Santiago), N-634 mainroad which is used extensively by cyclists doing the Camino, the motorway, the airport and, of course, the functioning narrow gauge railway line.

The railway offers trains direction Santiago at 9.24 and 16.30 and direction Oviedo at 13.30 and 20.54. You can rest a bit and there are racks for your bikes whilst passing the many tunnels and viaducts that make up part of surely one of the most beautiful railway lines in Spain. From April to October the luxurious Transcantabrico sleeper also passes.
